I understood Verity’s rationale for doing what she did at 15, but Kylemore’s emotional development appeared to have been frozen at his 7-year-old self, and that just wasn’t appealing at all. The worst part about the whole experience was how much I liked most of the story So she flees him again – and who does she run into but Mommie Dearest, who beats up her brother again – poor guy and then announces gleefully that she’s going to disfigure Verity and then have her gangbanged by her servants while she watches.
He remained impassive as she rubbed her lips across his, testing taste and texture. Then we listen to her ann ponderings as she sees her long, lonely, unhappy life ahead. Would this humiliation never end? I sensed a degree of panic in Kylemore campbll she refused his proposal.

Both main characters go through feelings of betrayal, emotional and physical abuse along with feelings of desperation and coldness.

She is trying to escape herself and what she has become but is unable to combine both aspects of her personality–Soraya the detached but beautiful courtesan and Verity, the naive, sensitive woman. If you are uncomfortable with this portrayal, simply do not read this book. No, of course not and he never deluded himself into thinking that they did. First of all, there is no way for me to write this review without offering up major spoilers, so consider this fair warning. Kylemore waited 5 years before she agreed to become his mistress. It’s been quite some time since I read such a dark romance such as this one, both lead characters draw on your emotions tightly and didn’t let go until the final page. When she disappears after his pronouncement that they should be wed Kylemore is stunned. His perseverance and determination to keep the heroine no matter what was the victory to truly have her as his wife and this quality is very memorable Except for the one “answer to the unanswered question” a person could read them in any order.
Destitution had given her no real choice but to accept the protection of a wealthier, older gentleman, but she always planned to leave the demimonde to live quietly with her younger siblings once she had enough money to support her family. Both Verity and Justin are rather flawed, perhaps one more than the other, and for differing reasons, but, as is true in romance, they break through the issues with each other and their love brings them some semblance of survival.
This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. Justin is the tortured soul, having nightmares due to something terrible in his childhood. As an example, I thought that Bastien borderline rapes Chloe in Black Icebut he at least had a powerful motivation outside of lust and the need for power.
