I felt a bit detached from the story. We like to keep it a secret. I liked the main character -sometimes- he is highly intell I’ll keep this short. Then again, neither do many of the things in this novel. When he acts out, his mom and dad both hit him, and when he is mocked by his father’s friend, his father – his primary caregiver, the one who cooks his meals, cleans his clothes, and looks after him – doesn’t even defend his own son: He is happy when he can pretend he is the only person in the whole world and sad when he finds the dead dog.
