Buzzati is, undoubtedly, a terrific writer. En serio, no lo leas. Heads You Win Jeffrey Archer. I’m pretty sure that this book would survive any translation relatively intact. Yet in that context, The Tartar Steppe made an impression.

As far as the ultimate meaning, I think the blurb on the back cover got it wrong an indictment on the military stateor if Buzzati really meant it that way, then he made some errors, which I would be happy to discuss with anyone who is interested.
